A few hours ago, there was a shooting at a high school not far from us. The horror and panic is all consuming. My mind cannot wrap itself around what the students and families must be going through. No matter what your beliefs on gun control, police, bullying, mental health or whatever else, we as a nation are all in this together. While we have no idea yet what has prompted this tragedy, we need to not point fingers but to come together regardless of religion, race, politics or whatever else; set that all aside today. Hug your children and talk with each other. Tell them you love them. Ask what they think about things. Respect each other. Reach out to your neighbors, be kind to strangers, be kind to everyone.
This last few days and weeks have not been kind to our country. We have suffered fires, hurricanes, now a shooting and so much more. Worldwide we have suffered floods, earthquakes and unimaginable tragedies. Everyday we cross paths with someone who is suffering, whether privately or openly. You can never know how important a kind word and a smile can be, they can be life changing. It’s time for all the nonsense to stop and to take a good look at what is happening around us. What our fighting is doing to our children, our future and theirs. Are we doing everything we can to leave a lasting legacy for them? Or are we trying to destroy everything good and innocent in them?
My prayer is that we can turn things around before it’s too late. My prayer is that we can think before we speak and act. My prayer is that people will re-read that post before hitting the publish button. My prayer is that kindness and goodness will come back around. My prayer is that there will be no more violence in our schools. My prayer is that there will be no more hate. My prayer is that we can lift ourselves back up and do what is right and good. I pray this not only for myself or my family but for everyone in the human race.
God Bless
Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. ~ Psalms 82:3-4 (ESV)
