The weather is finally warming up here, the rain has slowed down and dandelions are sprouting up everywhere!  They are trying to completely take over my lawn, and frankly I don’t care for them.  They can grow out in the fields all they want, but they refuse to stay there.  It seems like each little flower turns into millions of seeds that kids of all ages love to make a wish and blow, resulting in millions more dandelions.

I do realize that there are so many positive benefits of dandelions and that they far outweigh the negatives.  Foremost in my mind is that the bees really seem to love them, and it is so important that we work to bring the bee population back.  There are many who use them for medicinal purposes, tea and more.  I just can’t bring myself to eat and drink them.  I can’t do nasturtiums in my salad either, refuse to eat mushrooms and I have a hard time even with arugula so it’s not like I am just picking on dandelions.  I do like the idea of natural remedies and such things but I am not confident enough to go out and pick some weeds, boil them up and cure diseases with it.  I’m scared I’ll make someone sick(er).  If you want to try this, I applaud you, but please be diligent in your research.

That being said, we do not spray or try to kill the dandelions in our yard, we just mow and do the best we can.  I like to watch the big bumblebees feasting on them and of course hold one under the chin of a child and tell them if their chin is yellow that means they like butter, that always gets a giggle.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.~ Proverbs 3:5-6

  1. I have a recipe for dandelion jelly that I would like to try, but our dog has full run of our lawn and I’m not willing to use “those” dandelions. 🤢
